Italian artisans form this extra-large terracotta planter from traditional Gelastro clay, shaping it in the same way Tuscan potters have done for generations. With its commanding 99 cm diameter and 85 cm height, it delivers the scale and gravitas expected from true Mediterranean gardenware, making it ideal for statement planting in courtyards, terraces and extensive gardens.
Weighing an impressive 123 kg, the XXL Italian Galestro Terracotta Double-Rim Planter offers a generous 326-litre planting capacity, making it built for serious trees and shrubs. It comfortably supports olive trees, citrus, bay, fig and other architectural plants, giving roots the volume and stability they need to thrive for years.
The bold double-rim design reinforces the structure while adding classical Italian elegance. The wide, rolled rim strengthens the pot's body and helps it hold heavy planting and moist compost without distorting.
Italian kilns fire the Gelastro clay to create a terracotta that remains both strong and breathable. The porous clay allows air and moisture to move naturally through the walls, promoting healthy root growth and reducing the risk of waterlogged soil. As the planter weathers outdoors, the surface softens and lightens, developing the gentle patina that gives authentic Tuscan pots their timeless character.
Each planter carries a subtle stamp set into the rim, a quiet but confident mark of Italian origin that reflects traditional craftsmanship rather than mass production.
It is not a lightweight garden pot. Italian makers build this planter to last outdoors for decades, and its natural terracotta tones sit beautifully in both classic and contemporary landscapes — whether used as a terrace centrepiece, to frame an entrance, or to anchor a courtyard.
For anyone seeking a large Tuscan-style terracotta planter with authentic Italian heritage, this XXL double-rim pot offers both dramatic presence and long-term performance.

Product Care
About Galestro Terracotta
Italian artisans select clay from the Tuscan hills and shape it into Galestro terracotta, a material prized for its mineral-rich structure, strength and durability. They work the clay using traditional artisan techniques passed down through generations, producing a terracotta that combines technical performance with unmistakable Italian character.
The natural minerals in Galestro clay create subtle surface variations and rich colour nuances, so every planter leaves the kiln with its own unique identity. No two pieces ever look the same. These gentle irregularities give the terracotta its authentic appearance, adding depth, warmth and visual interest that machine-made pots cannot replicate. As the planter weathers outdoors, it continues to develop even more character and charm.
Italian kilns fire Galestro terracotta to produce a material that remains strong, breathable and frost-resistant, making it ideally suited to permanent outdoor planting in the UK climate. The clay allows air and moisture to move naturally through its walls, helping roots stay healthy while preventing stagnant, waterlogged compost.
Care & Outdoor Use
This planter is built for year-round outdoor use and resists frost down to –15°C when installed correctly. Keep the drainage hole clear and raise the pot slightly off the ground using pot feet so water can escape freely. In winter, avoid leaving the planter standing in water, as trapped moisture combined with freezing temperatures is the only real cause of terracotta damage.
Over time, the surface develops a natural patina, gently lightening and softening as it ages. This weathering forms part of the beauty of Galestro terracotta and confirms its quality — no sealants or special treatments are needed. Let the planter mature and improve year after year.

Planting Ideas
The Italian Galestro Terracotta Double-Rim Planter range supports planting schemes that rely on scale, warmth, and authentic Tuscan character. Crafted from breathable Galestro clay, these planters actively promote healthy root development and suit long-term planting when correctly drained. Designers and gardeners use them in terraces, courtyards, patios, and formal garden settings where planting must deliver presence as well as longevity.
XXL – D99cmxH85cm
The
XXL planter accommodates large specimen trees and statement planting.
Gardeners use this size to establish olive trees, citrus varieties such
as lemon or orange, and bay trees, allowing roots to develop fully and
anchor the planting. This size creates strong focal points in courtyards
and formal layouts and works particularly well when used in pairs to
frame entrances or architectural features. Multi-stem olives and bays
also perform exceptionally well at this scale.
XL – D80cmxH65cm
The
XL planter balances visual impact with flexibility and suits small
trees, large shrubs, and structured evergreen planting. Designers often
specify single-stem olives, bay, laurel, or myrtle in this size, while
clipped evergreens reinforce more formal schemes. This planter also
supports mixed planting, where a central shrub combines with lavender,
rosemary, or seasonal flowering plants to soften the overall
composition.
L – D70cmxH55cm
The
L planter works best for shrubs, herbs, and decorative planting,
especially where repetition helps structure a space. Gardeners commonly
plant lavender, rosemary, thyme, pelargoniums, or scented geraniums, all
of which complement the warm terracotta tones. Used in pairs or groups,
this size lines terraces, pathways, and seating areas while adding
fragrance, colour, and texture without overwhelming the setting.
Layered planting
Across
all three sizes, gardeners create successful displays by layering
planting. A central tree or shrub anchors the composition, while
underplanting with trailing or seasonal plants softens the rim and
extends interest throughout the year. The pronounced double rim frames
planting clearly and helps arrangements appear deliberate and well
balanced.
Thanks to the natural properties of Galestro terracotta, these planters perform reliably in the UK climate and provide an excellent solution for customers seeking authentic Italian terracotta planters that combine classic Tuscan style with long-term garden performance.
