Product Information
- Garden Bust depicting Michelangelo's David Statue
- Cast Iron
- Hand-finished detail
- Natural rust finish
A popular Garden Bust, depicting Michelangelo's David Statue in Cast Iron with clever hand-finished detail, will make an eye-catching addition to any outdoor space.
David is a masterpiece of Michelangelo's Italian Renaissance sculpture from 1501 to 1504. David was the first colossal marble statue made in the early modern period following classical antiquity, a precedent for the 16th century and beyond and commissioned initially as one of a series of statues of twelve prophets to go along the roofline of the east end of Florence Cathedral (Duomo di Firenze).
Choosing your Cast Iron Garden Statue
Choose a Cast Iron Garden Statue that you enjoy. Above all, it should give you pleasure whenever you look at it. We have an extensive range to cater to all spaces and tastes, including portrait statues, life-size statues, cat and dog statues, and our best-selling life-size stag cast iron statues.
Placing your Cast Iron Garden Statue in your Garden
Large Garden Statues act as focal points and draw the eye to an area. Considering the view in front, around, and at a distance is essential. If you get it right, giant garden statues become important centrepieces and will enhance your landscape. Choose something to evoke feeling - Garden Statues, seen from all angles, make great focal points, while Miniature Garden Statues bring you closer to the Garden. Placing Miniature Garden Statues on a path in a flower bed is a lovely way to surprise your guests as they come across them on a stroll through your Garden.
Pay attention to the size of the Garden Statue before Buying
The size of the Statue can make your Garden feel smaller or larger. Do not dismiss larger pieces if you have a small garden, as they can add some real drama to the setting. If you can get someone to do a mock-up so you can visualise a piece in your Garden, it would be so much better. Please always check the dimensions of our Cast Iron Garden Statues before buying.
Lighting
Lighting your Cast Iron Garden Statue will give your Garden a real wow factor both day and night all year, bringing the Garden into the house. There are various ways to do this, but we prefer a hidden spotlight focused on the piece (ideally from a distance).

Product Care
Cast Iron Statues
Your Cast Iron Garden Statue may arrive in a mostly un-weathered state; in this instance, you can wash the item using a mild detergent (like washing-up liquid) and a soft brush to remove any oils that may still be present from manufacture; we recommend it be left to weather naturally in situ. If need be and to avoid any staining, seal the cast iron with clear weather-proof varnish intended explicitly for metal applications like Owatrol. Please note that this will change the colour of the cast.
Painted Cast Iron
Painted Cast Iron Statues are intended to have an antique aesthetic and have points where 'rust' breaks through the paint and stains the painted surface. You can wipe off, but never wholly.

Material Properties
Cast iron is renowned for its relatively low melting temperature. It is a class of 'iron–carbon' alloys with more than 2% carbon content. When fractured, the alloy constituents affect its colour; cast iron has spherical graphite "nodules" that stop the crack from progressing.
Carbon (C), ranging from 1.8 to 4 wt%, and silicon (Si), 1–3 wt%, are the main alloying elements of cast iron.
Cast iron tends to be brittle, except for malleable cast irons. With its relatively low melting point, good fluidity, castability, excellent machinability, and resistance to deformation and wear resistance, cast irons have become an engineering material with a wide range of applications used in pipes, machines and automotive industry parts, and of course, garden ornaments!. Cast Iron is resistant to damage by oxidation.
